{"id":4450,"date":"2022-03-17T02:05:26","date_gmt":"2022-03-16T18:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tsinghualogic.net\/JRC\/?p=4450"},"modified":"2022-04-04T17:25:52","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T09:25:52","slug":"invited-talk-hans-kamp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tsinghualogic.net\/JRC\/invited-talk-hans-kamp\/","title":{"rendered":"Invited Talk \u2013 Hans Kamp"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3>Proper Names in Attitude Attributions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This talk is about the semantic contributions of proper names in Attitude reports, such as <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>(1)&nbsp;John believes that Mary is in Paris<\/li><li>(2)&nbsp;I long thought that Jonah was a fictional character<\/li><li>(3)&nbsp;Some Greeks from the 7th cen- tury B.C. assumed that Hesperus\/Phosphorus can only be seen in the morning<\/li><li>(4)&nbsp;Johnny believes that Santa lives in Greenland<\/li><li>(5)&nbsp;Johnny\u2019s father believes that Johnny thinks that Santa lives in Greenland. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Point of departure is the reconstruction of the causal chain account of proper names out-lined in (Kripke 1980) and (Chastain 1975) within the framework of MSDRT (short for \u2018Mental State Discourse Representation Theory\u2019), an extension of DRT that offers explicit descriptions of mental states and, derivatively from that, truth conditions for simple and complex attitude reports (Kamp 2015), (Kamp 2022), (Kamp 2021).
